Modern Slavery is the illegal exploitation of people for person or commercial gain.
Did you know that in every community and every Parish and Deanery in our Diocese of Southwark there are victims of modern slavery and yet slavery is illegal in this country?
In the UK today there are estimated to be over 100,000 victims, over half of these are British citizens and many of these are children.
Why not invite Chris Elliott and Jennifer Hyde, the Southwark Diocese Advisors on Modern Slavery, to come to your church, deanery synod or church group to explain more and answer questions you might have such as the Diocesan website.
Modern slavery is the illegal exploitation of people for personal or commercial gain. SAMS is committed to raising awareness of modern slavery in local areas, helping people recognise the signs of modern slavery and know how to report concerns that they see. It covers a wide range of abuse and exploitation, and victims of modern slavery can be any age, gender, nationality and ethnicity.
Deanery Lay Chairs were given a presentation by Chris Elliott and Jennifer Hyde, Southwark Diocese’s Advisors on Modern Slavery. They are excited to offer a range of talks, and other initiatives to parishes
and deaneries to raise awareness of the issues of Modern Day Slavery and provide training and workshops.
Please contact them on rasocialjustice@gmail.com or you can
